Jungle Safari Yoga Adventure for children at Anand Yoga Centre, Kolathur

A jungle safari yoga adventure is a narrated story where children move through gentle poses as they travel through an Indian jungle. At Anand Yoga Centre in Kolathur, the story carries the practice, so children sway like an elephant and climb like a tree without ever feeling tested. It is the first of our adventure series, with Ocean and Space journeys still to come, and every pose stays gentle and age-safe.

Pack your imagination

All you need is a soft space, a curious mind and a grown-up to read the story aloud.

A story you move

Instead of a lesson, your child travels through a jungle and the poses simply happen along the way. No child feels watched or tested.

An Indian jungle

Picture a warm jungle of elephants, peacocks, a sleepy tiger and a lotus pond, the kind of nature children know and love.

First of a series

This safari is the first adventure, with an Ocean journey and a Space journey on the way. Each one is a brand new story to move through.

The animals you will meet

First wave hello to the jungle and give the whole body a big wiggle and a shake to wake up. Then read each beat aloud and let your little explorer act it out at their own happy pace.

A swaying Elephant

Clasp your hands into a long trunk and swing it slowly side to side as a friendly elephant ambles by.

Tiptoe past a sleepy Tiger

Drop onto hands and knees and creep softly like a Cat, so you do not wake the snoozing tiger.

Cross the river by Boat

Sit on a log boat, lift your legs and balance as you paddle gently across the cool jungle river.

Climb a tall Tree

Stand tall and grow into a Tree, reaching your branches high to peek over the whole green jungle.

Peek at a Peacock or Cobra

Spot a proud peacock, then lie down and lift into a baby Cobra with a gentle hiss as a friendly snake slips past.

Rest in a cosy den

Curl up in a snug den in child's pose, then take one calm jungle breath to finish your adventure.

Questions

Jungle Safari Yoga Adventure: parents' questions

What is a yoga adventure or yoga story?
It is a story a child moves through, where each part of the journey becomes a gentle pose. The story does the teaching, so children practise yoga while simply having fun and using their imagination. It is a lovely, pressure-free way to enjoy moving together.
What age is the jungle safari for?
It is perfect for little ones aged 4 to 7, and great fun for 8 plus too. Our Little Yogis classes (ages 4 to 7) love these story adventures, and Junior Yogis enjoy adding their own ideas to the tale.
How do we do it at home?
Find a soft, clear space, then read the journey aloud and let your child act out each beat at their own pace. There is no right or wrong, so follow their giggles and let the story lead the way.
How long does the adventure take?
About ten to fifteen minutes, depending on how much your little explorer wants to roar and wiggle. You can stretch it out or wrap up early, whatever suits the day.
