Is Aerial Yoga Safe at Anand Yoga Centre, Kolathur

Aerial yoga is safe for most healthy adults when it is taught by a trained teacher, with proper rigging and small groups. At Anand Yoga Centre in Kolathur every class has only four hammocks, every pose is supported, and you stay close to the floor while you build confidence. A few conditions, such as pregnancy, certain eye and heart problems, or recent surgery, mean you should check with us and your doctor first.

Why it is safe the way we run it

Small, supported and close to the floor by design.

Trained teacher, only four

Classes are led by Sailaja Anand, a certified, trained yoga instructor, and capped at four students, so she watches every person and adjusts each pose throughout the class.

Every pose supported

The hammock holds part of your weight in every pose, and you stay close to the floor while you build confidence.

A health check first

Before your first class you tell us about any health considerations, so we can adapt or skip anything that is not right for you.

Strong, rated rigging

The hammocks are rated to hold many times your body weight, and the rigging is set up properly before you ever step in.

Who should avoid or modify

Some conditions make inversions risky, so we adapt or skip them.

Talk to us first

If any item in the checklist applies to you, message us before booking so we can plan a safe, mostly upright class or advise waiting.

Inversions are optional

If inverting is not right for you, you still get a full, satisfying class. You never have to go upside down.

Your doctor knows best

For any ongoing condition, check with your doctor too. We are happy to keep you upright while you confirm.

What we do to keep you safe

Set to your height

Your hammock is set to your height before class, so every pose sits correctly for your body.

Slow and watched

You come into and out of inversions slowly, and with only four in the room you are watched the whole time.

We pause with you

If anything feels off, you tell Sailaja and you pause together. There is never any pressure to push on.

Good to know

Please check with us, and your doctor, first if you

  • are pregnant
  • have very high or low blood pressure or a heart condition
  • have glaucoma or recent eye surgery
  • have severe vertigo or inner-ear issues
  • have had recent surgery (eye, back, shoulder, hip or wrist)
  • have osteoporosis, spinal instability or a herniated disc
  • have had a recent head injury
  • have had recent Botox

Inversions raise the pressure in the eyes and head and the load on the heart, which is why these conditions matter. This is general wellbeing information, not medical advice, so please check with your doctor too.

Questions

Is Aerial Yoga Safe: common questions

Is aerial yoga safe for beginners?
Yes, aerial yoga is safe for most healthy beginners when it is taught by a trained teacher in a small group with proper rigging. At Anand Yoga Centre in Kolathur every class is capped at four hammocks, every pose is supported, and you stay close to the floor. Inversions are always optional, so you build confidence at your own pace.
Who should not do aerial yoga?
You should check with us and your doctor first if you are pregnant, have very high or low blood pressure or a heart condition, glaucoma or recent eye surgery, severe vertigo, recent surgery, osteoporosis, spinal instability, a herniated disc, a recent head injury or recent Botox. Inversions raise the pressure in the eyes and head and the load on the heart, which is why these matter. This is general wellbeing information, not medical advice.
Is there a weight limit for aerial yoga?
The hammocks are rated to hold many times an adult body weight, so there is plenty of margin for safety. The rigging is set up properly before every class and your hammock is set to your height. If you have any concerns, message us on WhatsApp at +91 86101 62435 and we will reassure you before you book.
Will I fall out of the hammock?
It is very unlikely. The fabric is strong and rated well above your body weight, you stay close to the floor, and every pose is supported and guided. With only four people in the room, Sailaja is watching and adjusting the whole time.
Is aerial yoga safe during pregnancy?
Please do not start aerial yoga during pregnancy without checking with us and your doctor first, since inversions and the pressure changes they cause are not suitable for everyone who is pregnant. If you already have an established practice, speak to us so we can advise. This is general wellbeing information, not medical advice.
