What To Wear To Aerial Yoga at Anand Yoga Centre, Kolathur

For aerial yoga, wear fitted clothing that covers the backs of your knees and your underarms, since the hammock fabric can pinch bare skin. Choose a fitted, supportive top because you may be upside down, and full-length leggings rather than shorts. Take off rings, watches, bangles, necklaces and belt buckles so nothing snags the silk. At Anand Yoga Centre in Kolathur we provide the hammocks and mats, so you just bring yourself.

What to wear

Comfortable, fitted and covering the skin the fabric touches.

Cover knees and underarms

Wear clothing that covers the backs of your knees and your underarms, because the hammock fabric can pinch bare skin.

A fitted, supportive top

Choose a snug, supportive top that stays put, since you may be upside down at points in the class.

Full-length leggings

Wear full-length leggings rather than shorts, so your legs are covered where the fabric wraps.

Eat light first

Have only a light meal beforehand, since inversions on a full stomach can feel uncomfortable.

What to leave at home

Anything hard or sharp that could catch the silk.

Jewellery

Remove rings, watches, bangles, necklaces and anything else that could snag or tear the silk or catch your skin.

Buckles and zips

Avoid belt buckles, exposed zips and rough seams, which can pull the fabric. Smooth, soft clothing is best.

Strong scent

Wear light or no perfume, as the small studio is shared and the fabric holds scent.

What we provide

Hammocks and mats

We give you the hammocks and mats, so there is no equipment to buy or carry. You just bring fitted clothing and yourself.

A set-up hammock

Your hammock is set to your height before class, so you walk in ready to begin.

Questions

What To Wear To Aerial Yoga: common questions

Should I wear leggings or shorts to aerial yoga?
Wear full-length leggings rather than shorts, because the hammock fabric wraps around your legs and can pinch bare skin behind the knees. Leggings keep you covered and comfortable, especially when you are upside down. At Anand Yoga Centre we provide the hammocks and mats, so leggings and a fitted top are all you need.
Do I practise aerial yoga barefoot or in socks?
You practise barefoot, which gives you the best grip and connection to the floor and the fabric. Socks can be slippery and are best left off. If you prefer something on your feet, grippy yoga socks are the only sensible option, but bare feet are simplest.
Do I need to remove my jewellery for aerial yoga?
Yes, please remove rings, watches, bangles, necklaces, belt buckles and anything that could snag the silk. Hard or sharp items can catch or tear the fabric and can also press into your skin when the hammock takes your weight. It is best to leave jewellery at home or in your bag before class.
What if I turn up in the wrong clothes?
Come anyway, and we will help. With only four people in the class, Sailaja can advise small adjustments so you are still comfortable and safe. We would simply suggest fitted, covering clothing next time, and you will not miss out on your first class.
Do I need to bring my own hammock or mat?
No, we provide the hammocks and mats, so there is nothing to buy or carry. You just bring fitted clothing that covers the backs of your knees and underarms, and yourself. If you have any questions before you come, message us on WhatsApp at +91 86101 62435.
