What it is

What aerial yoga ishammock-supported practice

Aerial yoga uses a soft silk hammock to support part of your body weight, so you can ease the spine, open the chest and shoulders, build core strength and try supported inversions with far less strain than on the mat. At Anand Yoga Centre in Kolathur it's taught in groups of only four, the only aerial yoga in north Chennai.

Ease the spine

The hammock gently stretches the spine, easing the tightness of long desk-bound days and making space between the vertebrae.

Build real core strength

Holding yourself steady in the silk works the deep core the whole time, so you get strong without grinding through endless crunches.

Invert, safely

The fabric holds you when you go upside-down, so inversions feel approachable. Always optional, always spotted.
Who it's for

Right for you if…

You sit all day

If your back and shoulders feel locked from screen time, the decompression is a relief from the first class.

Mat yoga feels repetitive

The hammock makes practice playful again. It feels different enough to keep you coming back.

You want strength + calm

Aerial blends real strength work with the nervous-system calm of being gently cradled and inverted.

You're curious but nervous

With only four people and constant guidance, beginners are exactly who we set this up for.
4
hammocks per class

We cap every aerial class at four on purpose. It means real, hands-on attention and a safe set-up for each person. It also means spots go quickly, so it's worth booking ahead.

Safety first

Is aerial yoga safe?

Aerial yoga is safe and beginner-friendly when it's taught properly and in small groups, which is exactly how we run it. A few people should check with us (and their doctor) first.

Please tell us first if you
  • are pregnant (we'll guide you to prenatal-safe options)
  • have very high or low blood pressure, or a heart condition
  • have glaucoma or have had recent eye surgery
  • have had recent surgery, or severe vertigo / inner-ear issues
  • have a back, neck or shoulder injury

None of this is medical advice. When in doubt, check with your doctor, and tell Sailaja before class so she can modify or suggest a mat-based alternative.

Questions

Aerial yoga: your questions

Is aerial yoga safe for beginners?
Yes. Aerial yoga is beginner-friendly when taught in small groups with proper support. At Anand Yoga Centre every aerial class is capped at four hammocks, so Sailaja can set up and spot each person individually. You stay close to the floor while you build confidence, and inversions are always optional and supported.
Who should not do aerial yoga?
Aerial yoga may not suit you if you are pregnant, have very high or low blood pressure, glaucoma or recent eye surgery, a heart condition, recent surgery, severe vertigo, or any injury aggravated by inversion. Please tell Sailaja about your health before your first class and check with your doctor if you are unsure. She will modify or suggest a mat-based class instead.
How much does aerial yoga cost in Kolathur?
A ₹299 aerial taster lets you try one class, and it is credited to your first month if you continue. After that, aerial yoga is ₹3,000 per month for an 8-class pack, or ₹600 as a drop-in. The aerial pack can be added on to any studio membership.
Where can I do aerial yoga in north Chennai?
Anand Yoga Centre in Kolathur is the only studio offering aerial (hammock) yoga in north Chennai. No other studio in Kolathur, Villivakkam, Ayanavaram or Anna Nagar runs aerial classes. With only four hammocks per class, spots are limited, so booking ahead is recommended.
What should I wear and bring to aerial yoga?
Wear fitted, comfortable clothing that covers the backs of your knees and underarms (the hammock fabric can pinch bare skin), and remove jewellery, watches and belt buckles that could snag the silk. Come on a fairly empty stomach and avoid heavy meals for two hours beforehand. We provide the hammocks and mats.
